Our Approach

Making an impact

Global and Local Giving

To lead our philanthropic efforts, we established a global philanthropy committee as well as nearly 20 local committees to lead initiatives across the regions where we operate. The majority of our local funding is concentrated on addressing causes aligned with our Citizenship focus areas of Climate and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

Volunteering

We offer numerous volunteering opportunities during work hours throughout the year and employees have two volunteer paid time off days that they are encouraged to use for causes they care about in their community.

Matching Gifts

As part of our investment in our people and communities, AXIS also sponsors a Matching Gift Program, an employee Grant Program and special opportunities to give back in partnership with our DEI and environmental initiatives through our internal Employee Recognition Program, AXIS Applause.

Annual Highlights

Words in action

All of our giving and volunteer programming is driven by our people. Aligned with our Citizenship priorities, the majority of our local funding is concentrated on causes addressing DEI and Climate.

Global and Local Giving

Spotlights

AXIS employees engage in charity initiatives and events with the aim of making a positive impact at the global, local and individual levels. See recent spotlights.

Future Frontiers

For the third year running, AXIS’ London Philanthropy Committee has partnered with Future Frontiers. This programme gives our staff the opportunity to act as a coach/mentor to secondary school pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds. Future Frontiers is an award-winning education charity that exists to ensure young people from disadvantaged backgrounds fulfil their potential at school and when transitioning to education, employment or training at age 16.

They do this through an intensive programme of coaching delivered by business professionals and giving students access to professional role models in their chosen industries. We have always received excellent feedback from pupils and staff alike and this year is no different. It is an education for both AXIS staff and pupils and it is wonderful to see how engaged and enthusiastic everyone participating is.

Solar Buddy

Halifax colleagues came together to assemble SolarBuddy solar powered lights. SolarBuddy designs, builds and distributes solar lights to energy poor communities in developing countries to reduce the harmful environmental, economic, and educational impacts of energy poverty. The Halifax volunteers learned about energy poverty while they assembled the solar lights.

Approximately 10% of the world's population lives in energy poverty, resulting in using unsafe fuel sources such as kerosene and diesel, and having fewer productive hours in a day. This particular batch of SolarBuddy lights were designed to be a fun study tool for children at night. The volunteers took time to write letters of encouragement to the children who will be receiving the lights. The team built 100 solar lights during the session, which according to SolarBuddy's impact calculator, may impact up to 500 people, reduce up to 128 tonnes of CO2 emissions and increase study hours by 730,000 over the next 3 years.

AXIS Clean-ups

Multiple Local Philanthropy committees have engaged in charity initiatives and events this year with the aim of making a positive impact on their communities and connecting with clients, brokers and partners.

To this end, AXIS employees around the world have come together with their colleagues, brokers, charities and more to clean-up the environment in which they live. Events took place in parks, lakes and beaches near several AXIS office locations globally.
